Philadelphia, Pa (September 3, 2002)—Sandra Jansky, executive vice president & chief credit officer of SunTrust Banks, Inc., Atlanta, Georgia, has been elected chair of RMA—the Risk Management Association. Suzanne B. Labarge, vice chairman and chief risk officer of RBC Financial Group, has been elected vice chair. Their one-year terms began September 1.
Jansky, a 25-year member of RMA, has held numerous national leadership positions with the association, including two separate terms on the Board of Directors. She has also served on RMA's Policy Council and the Regulatory Relations Council. She received a Special Service Award in 1992-93 and a Distinguished Service Award last year.
As chief credit officer at SunTrust, Jansky has company-wide oversight of the full range of credit-related functions, including credit policy, credit administration, credit and capital markets risk, special assets, credit review, and credit portfolio metrics. Jansky began her banking career in 1967, joining SunTrust in 1981. She held numerous positions within SunTrust's Florida operating unit before moving to the Atlanta office in 1998 to assume the position of senior vice president and managing director of corporate & investment banking, a new division of SunTrust. In April she was promoted to her current position.
Jansky attended the University of North Carolina -- Charlotte. She is a graduate of L.S.U. Banking School of the South, the ABA International Banking Program -- University of Colorado, and the RMA Loan Management Program. She and her husband, John E. Jansky, are the parents of four children, ages 13 -32.
Labarge, a member of RMA's Toronto Chapter, has served on RMA's Board of Directors since 2000.
At RBC she directs the strategic management of risk on an enterprise-wide basis and is a member of the Group Management Committee, which sets the overall strategic direction of the Group. She also chairs the USA Corporate Governance Committee, the Ethics & Compliance Committee and the Risk Management Committee and is a member of the bank's Asset/Liability Committee (ALCO), Interest Rate Risk Committee, RBC Capital Markets Executive Committee and Technology Policy Committee.
Labarge is a graduate of McMaster University, where she is currently a member of the Board of Governors. She has a master's degree from Harvard Business School and is currently serving on the Board of the Harvard Business School Club of Toronto. She also serves on the Faculty of the Commerce Advisory Council at the University of British Columbia. Labarge is also a Board member of the Carleton University Foundation.
In addition, Labarge serves as chairman of the Board of CLS Group Holdings AG and CLS Bank. (CLS is an initiative sponsored by 67 international banks designed to eliminate the settlement risk in foreign exchange transactions.)
